Healthvault is not a PHR – Quotes from the ICMCC Event Panel

Below are some appetizing quotes from some of the members of the ICMCC 2008 Panel discussion.

View the complete panel discussion.

Healthvault is not a PHR, it is a place where consumers can decide to store information, from where they can decide to share information with healthcare providers, it allows them to connect devices and monitor themselves. That data should be owned and managed by the patient. Microsoft will not look at that data, nor trawl that data, unless the consumer decides they want to enter in to any research that might take place.

Mark Treleaven, Microsoft

In the UK there is a sort of parent-child relationship between NHS and patient, which can only function in two ways; either the patient does as he is told or he comes in well prepared. CfH is going to make the latter happen.

Marlene Winfield OBE, HealthSpace

A patient record is a portal, a tool for patients to do as much for themselves as they want to do. There are 3 legs to the stool, the doctor, the patient and the IT, they all have to work together to maximize the benefit for the patient.

Brian Fisher, PAERS

We want to produce knowledge from information that supports informed choices and research is central to that. In fact although often referred to as secondary use of health information it is actually a very primary use of it.

Carol Dezateux, Wellcome Trust

What is the impact of community generated websites on the patient doctor relationship. Who do I believe, my fellow patients with a similar problem or my doctor?

Andy Marsh, Westminster University
